MCE teams with Imperial Electric and Alberto Sassi to bring superior quality solution to North American geared traction market

Rancho Cordova, CA (March 27, 2007)
Motion Control Engineering (MCE), the industry’s leading manufacturer of non-proprietary elevator controls, and member of the Kinetek group of companies, is now bringing geared traction machines to the North American elevator market with the introduction of the MCE 94MB Geared Traction Machine.

MCE is bringing together two of the most highly regarded elevator motor/machine manufacturers in the industry —U.S.-based Imperial Electric (A Kinetek Company), and Italy-based, Alberto Sassi. Imperial is the leading elevator motor manufacturer in the United States, while Sassi dominates the Global marketplace while producing more than 23,000 geared traction machines annually.

According to Ashur Kanon, MCE senior vice president, the 94MB satisfies a market need for a high quality, mid-rise geared traction machine that will benefit both modernization and new construction projects. “The 94MB geared traction machine is a complete offering,” said Kanon. “It has a significantly smaller footprint, reduced weight, and requires simpler site preparation. The compact design and reduced weight allow for easy handling, installation and maintainability without sacrificing durability or machine integrity.”

Kenneth Munson, vice president, marketing and business development for MCE parent company, Kinetek, has overseen the development of the geared traction program for MCE. Munson noted the combined manufacturing experience of Imperial Electric and Alberto Sassi totals 160 years and serves customers on every continent. “This is a unique partnership that combines North America’s leading non proprietary controller and motor manufacturers (MCE and Imperial Electric) and Europe’s leading independent gear and gearbox manufacturer."

Munson noted that stocking traction machines in North America will enable MCE to offer a delivery lead time of just four to six weeks — significantly less than the current industry standard. “MCE customers have been asking for a quality product that they can get quickly. The 94MB is that product.”

Mike Savic, area manager for Alberto Sassi, praised the MCE/Imperial/Sassi partnership. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with North American elevator industry leaders, MCE and Imperial Electric. We are confident that the partnership will provide significant benefits for our companies and our customers.”

MCE’s comprehensive geared traction package includes engineered drawing packages, industry leading components, safety gears and accessories; and complete on-site service, documentation and training.
