| Gear Research Chassis Drive Units Now Available With Electric Parking Brake And Increased Horsepower Options | |||||
| October 8, 2001 |
Grand Rapids, MI - Gear Research, Inc., a division of Imperial Electric, announces the immediate availability of an electric parking brake option for its Chassisdrive 12 battery powered traction drives for the floor care and material handling industries. A 6" mechanical disk brake remains an option for parking and service duty, providing up to 680 lb/ft of braking force. In addition to parking, this new electric brake option fulfills the need for power interrupted braking requirements. It utilizes the gearbox jackshaft to obtain an 8:1 ratio braking advantage to the 12" tire, as well as an emergency manual release. This translates into a holding torque of 480 lb/in at the drive wheel. Designed as a self-contained, single-wheel drive unit, the basic Chassisdrive 12 is powered either by a 1 hp, 36-volt ventless field wound motor or a 1 or 2 hp ventless permanent magnet motors available in 24 or 36 volts. Motors are linked to a double reduction 36:1 gearbox and the assembly will rotate through 90° off center in either direction. To accommodate anticipated operating environments, the unit is equipped with a 12" x 4" x 8" X-grooved tire available in rubber, non-marking rubber or wet traction "P7" compound. A simple "bolt on and plug in" procedure offers easy assembly of this drive to its applications. Other design features include high-quality seals and bearings, hunter tooth helical gearing, "EP" grease lubrication and a main housing that is cast in corrosion-resistant aluminum. Gear Research manufacturers gears and gearboxes for OEMs of food processing equipment, floor care equipment, hydraulic pumps and other types of equipment. |
